Tip of the day: Write what you know

Published by canstring at 10:54 am under Tip of the Day Edit This

Today’s tip of the day is quite simple. Don’t write about what you don’t know.

Sometimes imagination is great, and you can imagine your way to writing a good song.  More often what you write without experience will not resonate with those who have the experience.

If you haven’t been to Harlem, don’t write songs about it.  If you haven’t lived on the streets, don’t write as if you have.  Write what you know.  Your authenticity is the key to eventually becoming noticed in the music industry.  Don’t compromise it.

Nice post, and one that I’d definitely agree with! Writing about what you know is essential, and as you say; if you don’t write about what you know then those that are in the know will see right through your writing and lack of experience/knowledge. I enjoyed your post. :)
